Privacy Policy

Khatmly is an app for completing the Quran together. Because it deals with worship, we hold ourselves to a simple standard: collect as little as possible, show individuals nothing about each other, and never make money from your data. This page explains exactly what that means in practice.

What we collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive and store:

  • Your name (used as your display name — you can change it in the app at any time) and your email address.
  • Your country, detected automatically. It is used only to set your timezone and to build anonymous, aggregate statistics (for example, how many countries readers come from). It is never shown alongside your name or activity.
  • Your language preference (English or Urdu).

As you use the app, we store:

  • Your khatam activity — which paras you claim and complete, and khatams or tasbeeh goals you create (including any title or dedication you write).
  • Your tasbeeh contributions — the counts you submit toward shared goals.
  • A record of expired reading claims (paras you claimed but did not finish in time), used only to keep the honor system fair for everyone.

If you allow notifications, a push token for your device is managed by our notification provider (see below) so we can send you reading reminders and khatam updates.

What we don't collect

  • No precise location. Country only, as described above.
  • No contacts, photos (other than a profile picture you choose to upload), microphone, or camera access.
  • No reading surveillance. We do not track how long you read, what page you are on, or whether you "really" read — marking a para done is on your honor.

What stays private

Your personal statistics — how much you have read, your contributions, your history — are visible only to you. There is no screen, API, or setting through which another user can see them. Everything shown publicly in the app is aggregate and anonymous: totals for the whole community, never rankings or numbers attached to a person.

The one exception is what you deliberately make public: if you create a khatam or tasbeeh goal, its title, dedication, and your display name appear to other users on that goal, exactly as the app shows you before you post it.

Guest use

You can browse khatams and read the Quran in Khatmly without an account. As a guest, we store no profile about you.

Services we rely on

  • Supabase — hosts our database and handles authentication. Your account data and activity live here.
  • Google Sign-In — the only sign-in method we offer. Google's own privacy policy governs the sign-in step itself.
  • OneSignal — delivers push notifications. It holds your device's push token; guests are never registered with it.

These providers process data on our behalf. We do not sell data to anyone or use third-party analytics brokers.

How long we keep it, and deleting your account

We keep your data while your account exists. You can request deletion of your account and personal data at any time — the steps are on our account deletion page, or simply email team@khatmly.com from the address you signed in with; we will complete it within 30 days. One nuance: counts you contributed to collective tasbeeh goals and paras you read in shared khatams remain part of those collective totals — but they are detached from you and carry no personal information.

Children

Khatmly is a general-audience app. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always tells you when it was last revised.
